2019 Aspire Prize for Personal Development winner: Sarah Marlor

Sarah, BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy, undertook her first placement was at Flawborough Equine, a rehabilitation yard in Nottinghamshire, where she was involved in the daily care of the horses as well as being involved in their rehabilitation from a range of musculoskeletal issues.

Sarah’s second placement was at Physio-Vet in Crewe where she worked as an assistant in the physiotherapy sessions. These were provided for dogs and cats, to manage long term conditions and rehabilitate them post-surgery and post-trauma. Sarah’s technical skills improved greatly and she learnt to work as part of an experienced team of professionals, understanding everybody’s individual specialities and using them to create the best outcome for each dog.

Sarah said: “I feel like I’ve grown so much as a person during my placement, it’s really helped me with my personal and professional skills. Learning how to work independently and with a team as well as putting skills that I’ve learnt at University into practise was great. I’ve come away with a much more professional mind-set and I feel really motivated and positive about the future.”
